You are right, I watched them in the early 80s on a 13 inch B&w tv at my grandmothers originally.
All over losing their son. I can't figure out if she miscarried or whether he was 18 and died drunk driving?
I was going to say.
Colour is kinda integral to them both, especially Vertigo.
There was no son, that was the twist. They couldn't have a son so they made one up.
Sweet Smell of Success(1957)
Perhaps even moreso for Sherdog the same two actors flipped in staring/supporting roles with Sword of Doom....
I still find it shocking that Elizabeth Taylor was 35 and burton 41 at the time of filming. Talk about two people looking busted at an early age.
Grapes of Wrath
Dr strangelove is amazing.
Was it Michael Mann that remade Wages of Fear ? The Sorcerer?
Mentioned already but
2. Creature from the Black Lagoon
Thats the one..
B&W movies made in the age of color movies shouldn't qualify
Start with this:
I have this on DVD.
If you guys like mysteries...I suggest Charlie Chan. I own them all. Not long, very fun. Maybe st are like parlor mysteries, who done its. Really good stories and also some comedic turns by his son and Chaffeur in some movies.
Start with Charlie Chan in.......and pick a city you like. London, Paris, Rio, Reno, Honolulu, Monte Carlo, Egypt, Shanghai. Or settings you like...Charlie Chan at the....Circus, Opera, Racetrack, olympics, Broadway etc
I watched this scene twice the first time I saw it.
If it was black & white, it was probably low resolution with shitty background music, so I'd be hard to be motivated to watch.
Maybe some old Agatha Christie stuff.
