Oh, so that's why the place payout was so low compared to it's win odds. Our horse finished tied for 2nd with the #12. I was wondering about that. Well, whatever. That's the only horse I bet in the race (went across like T did) so I'll take it. And it's always nice to see a pace pattern horse come through with a good effort like that. Was only a length away from winning the race at the end.

Thank you sir. I have a question for ya, and it may be a really stupid one, haha.

On the page where we make our picks, one of the columns is labeled "123 Rating". Does that mean the percent chance of that horse finishing on the board? Where are they getting those numbers from?

To be honest, T, I really don't know how they come up with those ratings. They look like win percentage chances based on whatever system they use, though, since each race adds up to 100%. But again, I don't know how they're compiled. That's a good question.

Thanks bud. I didn't even read the heading of the column at first and I was just assuming that it was the percentage of people in the contest picking each horse. I had been trying to avoid using horses with a high % thinking that I didn't want to be taking the same horses as everyone else, which was apparently stupid.

So, with that said, I'm going with these tonight:

    Race 6: #1 California Breeze
Race 7: #4 Handful of Stripes
    Race 9: #8 Garbo

I just clicked on the 123 site looking to find some information oh how they're compiled and didn't see after a quick look. I did notice that the site runs there own contest all the time, though, so the rating maybe taken from the amount of people who pick the horse(s) from the site directly. Or it could be a form of a total rating like Brisnet does with prime power or what we do with our system. Just not as good as ours, though. Haha. Well, of course I'm going to say that since we know everything that goes into ours, what it values, what is more valuable within the given values, and what it doesn't value at all that most systems way overvalue.

I'm not sure going against that rating is such a bad idea all told since I'm sure there's a bunch of lazy asses in the contest who just default to the highest 123 rating (shit, there's an option to auto-select that if someone wanted to). You'll also find all those people way behind us on the leaderboard. At the same time I wouldn't go against that rating just for the sake of it either. Select the horse you like best given the information you have and if it happens to have a high 123 rating then so be it. If it's 123 rating is on the lower side then all the better.

I just know I could never trust something like '123 rating' without knowing what it is or, if it's a total rating for a horse, have a very good idea on what exactly it weighs and how to get that rating.

e.g. I don't know if you do it on purpose or not, T, but over the last couple of weeks you seem to rely heavily on the contending horses with good to very good early, late differentials. If it was on purpose (being the smart guy you are I'm guessing it is) then you're doing so because it has obviously worked for you lately with you having moved up 800 spots or something crazy like that. You can't find something like that in a "all in one number" (whether it be 123, prime power, or even ours with just using the total average). In fact I can pretty much guarantee that an ELD factor isn't included at all in any of those other numbers. That's all ours. That's an important factor that we discovered all on our own. And we know exactly what it means as we do with all our factors.

That's exactly what I've been doing ever since you first mentioned ELD as a high impact factor to look at. I've been giving that the most weight, followed by DP and PP. Then, of course, I'm looking at the morning line and trying to determine which horse may have the most value. Love it and it's been working great so far. All thanks to you Shark.

Great. Now I know what horses you're going to pick when we enter the last day of the contest and I have a $25 edge on you and there's $5000 on the line. I'll simply put the block on you. Hell yeah, you're damn rights I would.

I would like the option to fudge the numbers if that scenario came true, but that's out the window now since you have the means to do them yourself now.

    Race on, T!

We got to watch out for that sneaky bastard @BluntTrauma21 too since he's already shown us that his horse is more than capable of making a big move at any time.

Looks like all three of us gained some positions today even if it really feels like we lost a bunch with that 60/1 horse winning the last race.

Thanks Shark. We're on a great run, unfortunate that people are landing on these crazy longshots or we'd be right in the mix. Going with these for today:

    Race 6: #6 Supernumerary
    Race 8: #4 Telescopic Plan
    Race 9: #2 Nym

We'll hit our own crazy longshot before it's done, T. Lots of time left yet. I was kicking myself a little last night, though, because I was going to play the #10 that finished 2nd to that big longshot with that one having the best ELD in the race and a good NF to go with it. But I did not think I'd get anywhere close to the morning line odds with it (nevermind better that it ended up being) just based on the fact that the top jock at the track was riding. That was my mistake as it paid out quite well for finishing 2nd. I should have trusted my first instinct.

Hopefully after this weekend I'll have a decent enough sample of races to look over and review.

I'm curious how that #8 does for you, Blunt. If it doesn't do well I'll bring something to your attention for tomorrow's races since I think this is the 3rd time this week you took a similar looking horse.
